Answer

By referring to Sunni and Shi’ite interpretive narrations we can realize that the meaning of ﴿مَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ﴾(Quran, Al- Rad, verse. 43) are infallible and purified household of the Prophet (a.s.) and Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) is at the head of them.
Shia and Sunni’s narrations are considered below:
1- Kulayni (may Allah be merciful to him) has quoted from Barid ibn Muawiyah with a correct document that he said: “I asked Imam Baqir (a.s.) about the verse ﴿قُلْ كَفَى بِاللهِ شَهِيدًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَمَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ﴾
[1]“Say: Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you and whoever has knowledge of the Book”, he answered that: “Just we are meant by this verse and Ali (a.s.) is the first, the most excellent and the best of us after the Prophet (s.a.w.)”. [2]
2- He has also quoted from Sudayr with his own document that he said: “Abu Basir, Yahyah Bazaz, Dawud ibn Kathir and I were present at the meeting of Imam Sadiq (a.s.) that his holiness came to us while he was angry and when he sat in his place said: “O Sudayr! Have you ever found this verse while reciting the Book of the Almighty and Glorious Allah?”﴿قُلْ كَفَى بِاللهِ شَهِيدًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَمَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ﴾Sudayr said: “I told him that may I be the ransom! I have recited this verse”. His holiness said: “does the one -who has knowledge of book- has the knowledge of all parts of the book or a part of it?”, I said: “he has the knowledge of all parts of the book”. Then he pointed to his breast and said: “I swear to Allah that we have the knowledge of all parts of the Book, I swear to Allah that we have the knowledge of all parts of the Book”. [3]
3- Tabarsi (may Allah be merciful to him) has quoted that a man asked Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) about his best virtue? His holiness recited this verse and said: “Just we are meant by this statement”﴿مَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ﴾
[4]4- Fayz Kashani has quoted from the book “Majalis” from the Prophet (s.a.w.) that his holiness said about this verse that: “that is my brother Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.)”. [5]
5- Ali ibn Ibrahim Qumi has quoted from Amir al- Muminin that he said: “be aware! Surly the knowledge that Adam has brought from the sky to the earth and whatever has been bestowed on prophets until the Seal of the prophets is with the household of the Seal of the prophets”. [6]
Sunni’s narrations
1- ibn Maghazili Shafi’I has quoted from Abdullah ibn Ata’ with his own document that he said: “I was in the presence of Abi Ja’far that suddenly the child of Abdullah ibn Salam passed his holiness. I said: may I be the ransom, is he the child of the person who has knowledge of the Book? His holiness said: “no, but the person who has knowledge of the Book, is your lord Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.), the one about whom some verses of the Book of the Almighty and Glorious Allah have been revealed:﴿مَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ﴾ ﴿أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِ وَيَتْلُوهُ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْهُ﴾
[7]“Is he then who has with him clear proof from his Lord, and a witness from Him recites it”, ﴿إِنَّمَا وَلِيُّكُمُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ﴾“Only Allah is your Vali and His Messenger and those who believe”. [8]
2- Hakim Haskani has quoted from Abu Sa’id Khidri with his own document that he said: “I asked the Messenger of Allah about Allah’s statement?” ﴿وَمَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ﴾His holiness said: “that is my brother Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.)”. [9] [10]
